Q. What is the purpose of lawvolunteers.org.au?

A. lawvolunteers.org.au connects lawyers, law students and others who are interested in volunteering their time and skill to organisations that need volunteers. The database provides contact information, background details about the organisation and role of volunteers, and indicates whether volunteers are being sought right now

Q. How does the "traffic light" system work?

A.

The traffic lights indicate the current status of each organisation as a guide to whether they are currently seeking volunteers.

red - the organisation is not seeking volunteers at this time Red light - means the organisation is not seeking volunteers at this time.

yellow - the organisation needs volunteers from time to time Amber light - means the organisation needs volunteers from time to time.

green - the organisation is currently seeking volunteers Green light - means the organisation is currently seeking volunteers.

For your convenience, we list the organisations with a green light on the home page. However, we encourage volunteers to check the complete database to find other organisations which may need volunteers, as indicated by an amber light.

Please note that, as the status of an organisation changes from time to time, organisations listed with a red light may still accept enquiries from potential volunteers.

Q. What does it cost to be listed lawvolunteers.org.au?

A. Nothing! It's absolutely free. Click here to download the registration form.

Plus, your listing is a great way to advertise for volunteers. Not only because anyone can access the database, which is promoted directly to law students; also because the data is also included in publications produced by the La Trobe Law Students' Association and Monash Law Students' Society to encourage volunteering.

Q. Why volunteer?

A. There are heaps of great reasons to volunteer.
Here are some:
  • Put back into the community.
  • Help people less advantaged than yourself with things that really matter to them.
  • Develop your skills in a practical environment.
  • Gain experience that you can add to your CV.
  • Feel good about that warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

Q. How accurate is the lawvolunteers.org.au database?

A. The information available in the database comes directly from the organisations listed. However, we rely on each organisation advising us of any changes to information and status. We actively contact every organisation periodically (every four to six months) seeking confirmation that our database remains current.

Q. I just tried contacting one of the organisations and found that your database is outdated! What gives?!

A. Despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee that all of the information in our database is 100% accurate from time to time. We encourage you to contact each organisation to check any details before you apply. If you have found any inaccuracies on our website, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Q. Your website is fantastic! I used it and started volunteering, and I feel great!

A. Congratulations! We'd love to hear your success stories.

Q. I just got some error on your web site. How come?

A. While we try to keep things running as smoothly as possible, these things can happen with technology. Please let us know with as much detail as you can about what you were doing and what happened, and we will attempt to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Q. Okay, so who's responsible for all this?

A. lawvolunteers.org.au is a joint venture between the Monash Law Students' Society and La Trobe Law Students' Association - the representative bodies for law students at Monash University and La Trobe University. Students volunteer to get involved and collect information for this database for the benefit of law students across Victoria. If you would like to help out, get in touch with us.
